About this run

An epic 5-day running adventure in Tanzania’s rugged backcountry, from Mount Kilimanjaro to Lake Natron.   AN EVENT LIKE NO OTHER TRAVERSE Tanzania RUN is a 5-day adventure in the scenic and seldom traveled backcountry of northern Tanzania. Participants power themselves through stunning landscapes and extraordinary wildlife areas, from the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro to the shores of Lake Natron. TRAVERSE is the opportunity to experience a truly untamed Africa.   WILD AND RUGGED AFRICA TRAVERSE RUN offers five stages of varied terrain, amazing scenery, and wildlife viewing. The course is raceable by the experienced, challenging to adventurers, and rewarding for all. The event takes place on fast single track, slow and technical single track, and double track safari roads. Although our time cutoffs are lenient enough for most participants to finish, you should be aware that northern Tanzania’s geography, flora and fauna — while spectacular to witness — are also formidable obstacles with which to contend. Runners will encounter challenging terrain, high elevations, thorns, wildlife... and more thorns. Though our food is both delicious and plentiful, and the overall experience amazing, TRAVERSE is not a local Thanksgiving Trot. This is a VERY difficult event.   TRAVERSE is a call to challenge and true adventure.      THE COMPLETE EXPERIENCE TRAVERSE is an all-inclusive 8-day experience. We provide: airport pickup and drop-offaccommodationall food (3 meals per day + feed zones on course)and drink (coffee, tea, sodas, beer and wine included)logisticspark feesmedical services and emergency evacuation Participants are responsible for international flights, Tanzanian visas and appropriate personal travel, health and accident insurance. Accommodation is in five event villages complete with tents, mattresses, toilets, and shower facilities. Food in event villages is fresh, delicious, and plentiful. The coffee is hot, and the beers are cold. Our chefs have years of experience cooking in the backcountry and do not disappoint. We also provide for guests with dietary restrictions.   WHO CAN PARTICIPATE Both professional and amateur athletes are welcome; no qualification is required. The course is designed to be enjoyable for both elites and adventurers. The front end may be fast, but most athletes come primarily for the challenge, the scenery, and the wildlife (and it may be they have the most fun).Youth under the age of 18 must have a guardian’s permission to participate. Youth under 16 years old are not guaranteed entry, and must go through an application process.
